On July 17, 2025, Alsons Development and Investment Corporation (Alsons Dev) employees participated in a Tree Growing Activity and an educational Waste Management Talk, bringing together employee-volunteers for a day of environmental action, learning, and volunteerism as part of the company’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainability and responsible citizenship.
Twenty-nine (29) employee volunteers, known as Sustainability Champions, planted 300 native and endemic tree seedlings in Sitio Luyan, Barangay Tambobong, Baguio District, Davao City. The activity was conducted under the Davao City Water District’s (DCWD) Adopt-a-Site Project, which forms part of Alsons Dev’s CSR flagship initiative focused on environmental conservation.
Specifically, the effort contributes to the rehabilitation of a five-hectare site adopted by Alsons Dev within the Mt. Tipolog–Tamugan Watershed, a vital water source for Davao City. The planting of native and endemic species plays a crucial role in restoring biodiversity, strengthening ecosystems, and supporting long-term environmental resilience.
The activity was made possible through the support of the Conrado and Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation, Inc. (CLAFI), Davao City Water District (DCWD), and the Obu Manuvu community, whose involvement ensured a meaningful and collaborative implementation on the ground.
To build on the day’s advocacy, the Sustainability Champions also joined an educational talk in the afternoon titled “Dump to Chomp,” led by Ms. Olive Puentespina of Davao Thermo Biotech Corporation (DTBC). The session introduced sustainable and circular approaches to managing biodegradable waste, offering practical tips on reducing food waste both at home and in the workplace.
The learning experience extended outdoors, as participants observed a garden demonstration on home composting and explored an urban garden setup, turning theory into tangible, everyday solutions.
By blending hands-on action with environmental education, Alsons Dev continues to nurture a culture of sustainability within the organization. Through meaningful initiatives like these, the company reinforces its commitment to building communities that uplift lives and promote sustainable living across generations while empowering employees to lead through volunteerism and environmental responsibility.
