The Alcantara Group recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of its flagship commercial development, ALDEVINCO Shopping Center, a landmark that has become a household name and synonymous with Davao tourism.
In a grand celebration held at the SMX Convention Center, Alsons Development Development and Investment Corporation Executive Vice President Rosie A. Dominguez shared her thoughts on the shopping center. “It has a story that spans generations not only for my family, but for our tenants and their own families as well.”
Recognition was given to 23 of ALDEVINCO’s longest-staying tenants, four of which have been operating since the shopping center’s inauguration in 1965. The 50 years tenants acknowledged were Mildred Q. Aguila of Milsan’s Quality Mart, Josephine C. Chu of Josephine Classic Wear Boutique, Bon Lan T. Lua of New Davao Julie Trading, and Nestor L. Quizon of San Jose Variety Gift Shop.
ALDEVINCO Shopping Center’s golden anniversary heralds the theme “Celebrating Mindanao,” a motif followed throughout the event with the opening salvo of Kalumon Performing Ensemble, the venue decorations by Davao’s most sought-after event stylist Annie Lim, the bountiful spread of Filipino favorites by premier caterer Baby Montemayor and the guests themselves, donning their best Filipiniana and ethnic attire.
As a way of giving thanks to the tenants, friends, and partners of ALDEVINCO Shopping Center, guests got a chance to win raffle prizes ranging from Android phones to a trip to Hong Kong. Three top performers were also flown in for the festive occasion, namely Richard Poon, Mitch Valdes, and Isabella.
The celebration also featured an exhibit detailing the history of ALDEVINCO Shopping Center, with a focus on Alcantara Group founder Conrado Alcantara and his wife Ladislawa, honored for their pioneering spirit and for bringing in a new and more convenient way to shop in Davao City. Today, ALDEVINCO is a popular destination for tourists and balikbayans, for crafts from all over Mindanao.
“The ALDEVINCO Shopping Center is the concrete demonstration of the Group’s steadfast dedication to Mindanao’s development,” said Tomas I. Alcantara, Chairman of the Alcantara Group, a one of the country’s largest and most diversified conglomerates, which has interests in agriculture, aquaculture, mining, real estate, and power generation mostly in Mindanao.
